The Destruction of Vesser East
By S1x

The flames were not spreading fast enough. Staring at my own home slowly being devoured by fire from my burning bed, I noticed that these dancing flames would still take another several minutes to hit the bomb. However, this also meant that I could savor these dark moments even longer.

The bomb was strategically placed on an electrical outlet in what was once a guest bedroom. As soon as the fire crossed it, it would first transmit its program to the main power plant and then to every single house in the city. Once it had finished, it would execute its program - blowing up absolutely everything within its sight until nothing but dust remained.

Curious as to what else was being destroyed, I rose from what remained of my bed and checked the scenery around me, all in a shade of orange; the flames would touch everything but me. I walked casually, but very slowly, across the burning floor... like a madman. But I was not mad; I was overjoyed at what would soon happen. I stopped my eerily slow walking in front of a mirror. That mirror was not able to show my true reflection due to the clash of my regular appearance with my morphed soul, so it bent and shattered out of confusion.

Wait... why was I doing this? Did I actually start these flames?! Did I set up that bomb?! What is going on here?! It's not right... not right...

No. It seemed that a part of my mind was still corrupted by doubt. I couldn't let it take over at such a crucial moment. The bomb was going to activate. My plan was excellent. All of the ourside of the house was sealed better than a fort. Nobody would every think that the interior was on fire. Wait... actually, they would realize nothing anymore in a matter of minutes. They all deserved it. It was all a matter of watching the flame reach its target.

Onto the next room I proceeded. The flames caught up to where I stood and branched off to the other rooms. This room had so many things inside it that would be engulfed in heat. The couch warped its shape until it turned black and sank into the fire. Pictures became distorted and fell; the fire increased with each object it scorched. And the more it burned, the more my energy flared up! This fire was beautiful!

No!!! I must stop the bomb - it's not worth it! This is inhumane! That sound... in the next room... that's my cat! It's being scorched to death!! Stop it... stop it now...!

The voice... it wouldn't shut up! At this point, the flames had succeeded in making it to the room where the bomb was. As soon as they got to that bomb, it would all end. Something, however, was dragging me away from that room! I was walking into a different room, as if I had not control over my own legs! This isn't where I wanted to be! I must watch the bomb initiate! Nothing inside this room is worth watch-

There it is... crying on the floor... poor cat... make it stop... please...

A different sound joined the crackling of the flames. It was the fainest cry for help, a last breath being drowned out by the hopelessness these final moments. Carefully looking down, I saw it: my pathetic use for a companion, still clinging onto life. The flames had managed to melt away all of its fur and even go through parts of its skin. It didn't have the life in it to stand up, so the only thing that miserable cat could do was just lay there in agony. How long could such a stupid thing endure staying alive?! I took exactly three steps forward, attempting to finish the worthless thing with my own force. As I lifted my hand above my head, it looked straight at me with its almost-dead face, and let out one more very weak "mw". That was the last "mw" it would ever make.

Stop!!!

It seemed like something in my mind almost broke, like someone diving through a window inside my head. Whatever it was, it was stopping me yet again. My hand was frozen in the air! I tried killing it with my foot, but that stopped midway also! Thoughts poured through my mind like a waterfall breaking through a giant dam! I closed my eyes and pictures flashed across my mind... me being able to stop the bomb... me putting out all the flames and repairing the house... me picking up my cat and treating all its near-fatal wounds, reviving it back to good health, laughing again, smiling again...

But the darkness fought back. It tried putting me back in control, pushing all the images flashing before me back to where they came from. The opposition fought back as well - my mind felt like a horrible ringing was going through it... I couldn't stand that unbearable noise! The noise of the two sides of my mind battling each other...! I began to feel the warmth of the fire, the power of the inferno inside my house! If I was able to wish for anything at this very moment, it would be for my mind to go completely blank!

The battle, however, only occured in order to stall for time. The flames had at last crossed the bomb, and I regained full control as I heard a glorious explosion from outside the house. It all had worked... that noise meant that the power plant had sent the program to every house and then self-destruced. Not even five seconds later, everything became engulfed in the pure power of the bomb's detonation, and every single little thing in its path - including my own soul - rose and dissipated into the endless sky.
